Finding Their Voice: Dance/Movement Therapy Activities for Neurodiverse Students

Presenter: Dr. Suzi Tortora
This hands-on, experiential webinar explores how creative arts therapies, particularly dance/movement therapy, can foster crucial executive functioning skills. Through movement and expression, children can develop emotional and physiological regulation, improve attention, and build impulse control. Whether in one-on-one sessions, dyads, or group settings, these techniques offer a dynamic, supportive pathway to growth and connection.
An essential tenet of this webinar is the powerful Dancing Dialogue principle that “All nonverbal behaviors are expressions of self and have the potential to be used for meaningful communication.” With this perspective we take a deeper look — beyond, beneath, around, and through these behaviors — to ask, “What is this child trying to tell us?” By viewing behaviors as expressions rather than challenges, we gain a profound insight into the experiences of neurodiverse children who struggle with regulation and socialization. Instead of mere reactions, these behaviors serve as coping mechanisms — ways of organizing their internal and external multisensory world.
This session provides access to both the live Zoom webinar on Wednesday, April 2 from 7-8 pm ET, AND the recorded webinar.
All registrants receive access to the recorded session through June 30, 2025.
Registration is available through June 29.
